Educational Equity Links and Resources

American Association of University Women - The American Association of University Women is a national organization that promotes education and equity for all women and girls. Through widely respected research, the AAUW Educational Foundation and the Association have drawn national attention to the problems girls face in school and offer solutions to these problems.

Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education - The mission of the Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education is to provide leadership in the identification and infusion of gender equity in all educational programs and processes and within parallel equity concerns including, but not limited to age, disability, ethnicity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.

Center for Women and Information Technology - The Center for Women and Information Technology, located at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, offers a variety of resources including curriculum, speakers series, and information about research and conferences to encourage more women and girls to study computer science or information systems and to pursue careers in IT.

CISCO Learning Institute Gender Initiative - The Gender Initiative, a project established to address the gender digital divide, seeks ways to increase women's access to IT training and career opportunities.

Equity Assistance Center - The Equity Assistance Center, NYU, has worked with public school districts in an ongoing, largely successful effort to achieve equitable representation and opportunity among all population groups who attend public schools. EAC is a critical partner in the US Department of Education's implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).

Exploring Gender in Learning Environments - The goal of this site is to engage learners in an interactive environment that allows them to utilize existing research and exploring innovative models to construct gender equitable technology programs and policies.

Institute for Women in Trades, Technology and Science - IWITTS provides traning, e-strategies, publications and technical assistance to the education system and employers to integrate women into technology and law enforcement careers. IWITTS partnered with Cisco Systems, Inc. and Cisco Learning Institute to develop Cisco Learning Institute's (CLI) Gender Initiative on Recruiting Women to Cisco Networking Academy Programs.

Interwest Equity Assistance Center - The Interwest Equity Assistance Center is one of 10 regional centers funded by the US Department of Education. It assists public school staff in providing equitable, high-quality education to all learners through training and technical assistance and support to solve equity problems related to race, gender and national origin. North Dakota is one of six states served by the Interwest Equity Assistance Center.

National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity - The National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity, Inc. (NAPE) is a consortium of state agencies whose mission includes key equity issues, particularly gender equity, in education and workforce development. North Dakota CTE is a member agency. This site offers excellent resources on gender equity issues in Career and Technical Education.

National Science Foundation - The National Science Foundation is an independent U.S. government agency responsible for promoting science and engineering through programs that invest over $3.3 billion per year in almost 20,000 research and education projects in science and engineering. To learn about initiatives and funding opportunities to promote equity, conduct a search on "equity" from the site home page.

Title IX Information - I EXercise My Rights is a public service, informational campaign designed to educate the public about Title IX. Simply stated, Title IX is a law passed in 1972 that requires gender equity for boys and girls in every educational program that receives federal funding.

Sun Microsystems Equity Program - The Open Gateways Program assists K-12 schools - particularly those in economically disadvantaged areas - secure access to the Internet. The program also provides staff and teacher training and develops curricula using Internet resources.
