PLANTING THE SEEDS OF SUCCESS
The chapters of our state’s history reveal a tale of determination and continuous learning—from the first people who lived off the land, to adventurous explorers who studied it, to the immigrant settlers who built a life here. Curiosity, perseverance and endurance pushed them to be innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders.
These same characteristics that shaped our heritage are equally vital today. Lifelong learning is fast becoming our new normal in North Dakota. Jobs change. The way we learn and work is transformed by new technologies. Opportunities for learning are no longer limited by physical borders or boundaries and the conventional idea that most learning takes place when we’re young has been tossed by the wayside. Learning new things and developing new skills is a continuous process. It has to be.
We are proud of the quality of education in our state. We have one of the highest high school graduation rates in the country. More than 40% of our state budget is allocated to K12 and higher ed. We’re passionate about transforming our education system and enabling our workforce to be nimble and dynamic at this time of dramatic change, ensuring we continue to compete in a global economy. And we’re doing it all right here from the center of North America, literally.
