Applicants are being sought for three new boards created by the 2019 Legislature, including a council to promote collaboration across all K-12 education entities in North Dakota as recommended by the Governor’s Innovative Education Task Force.

The K-12 Education Coordinating Council was established through Senate Bill 2215 and consists of 18 members including legislators, executive branch leaders and educators. Among other duties, the council is tasked with identifying opportunities for greater collaboration among state education entities and stakeholders; reviewing the effectiveness and efficiency of access and delivery of education services; and evaluating education trends and recommending policy changes.

Seven of the 18 members are appointed by the governor. Applications are being sought for:

  • An individual representing the statewide longitudinal data system committee;
  • An individual representing a tribal school;
  • An individual employed as a public school administrator;
  • An individual employed as a public school principal;
  • An individual employed as a public school teacher;
  • A director of a special education unit; and
  • A director of a regional education association.

In addition to the K-12 Education Coordinating Council, applications are being sought for governor-appointed positions on the newly created Environmental Review Advisory Council and the new High-Level Radioactive Waste Advisory Council.

The 13-member Environmental Review Advisory Council, which advises the Department of Environmental Quality in carrying out its duties, includes 10 members appointed by the governor:

  • A representative of county or municipal government;
  • A representative of manufacturing or agricultural processing;
  • A representative of the solid fuels industry;
  • A representative of the liquid and gas fuels industry;
  • A representative of crop agriculture;
  • A representative of the waste management industry;
  • A representative with an agronomy or soil sciences degree;
  • A representative of the thermal electric generators industry;
  • A representative of the environmental sciences; and
  • A representative of the livestock industry.

The High-Level Radioactive Waste Advisory Council, which advises the state Industrial Commission, also has 13 members including three appointed by the governor:

  • A representative of county government
  • A representative of city government; and
  • A representative of the agricultural community.

Applications may be filed for all boards at https://www.governor.nd.gov/boards/. Appointments are actively being made, and applicants also are continually being sought for other boards and commissions, all of which can be found on the same website.
