The North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) will review funding requests for 11 projects totaling $1,138,735 at its upcoming meeting in Medora.

APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Commerce that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products. APUC promotes economic diversification through awarding grants that can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance. In this round of applications, health products, intellectual property commercialization, the energy industry and manufacturing could benefit from the varied nature of APUC’s support to economic diversification and growth. 

The following requests will be reviewed:

Baker Boy Bake Shop, Inc. (Dickinson) is requesting $152,500 to develop a line of ten new donut products by Fall of 2019. This new line of donuts will be marketed throughout the US through trade publications, social media, and email advertising. Contact Guy Moos at 701-225-4444.

Bitz 4 Solutions (Napoleon) is requesting $187,500 to develop a logistics app for the livestock industry that will centralize information for the sender, transporter and receiver for all livestock deliveries. Contact James Philip Bitz at 701-226-2197. 

Black Bison Organics, LLC (Bismarck) is requesting $49,000 to construct an education and demonstration facility.  Both buildings will be constructed using the innovative Nordic Steel building system, based out of Mandan, ND; thereby demonstrating the use and effectiveness of two local products. CoJack Snack & Pack LLC (Devils Lake) is requesting $105,425 grant will make it possible to promote identity preserved natural products to a large buying group. Contact Gene Hepper 701-466-2398.

Genesis Feed Technology (Fargo) is requesting $146,000 to fund market research and prototype development. Genesis Feed Technologies will hire contractors to develop the software and conduct market research to refine the business model for deploying the prototype market. NDSU Department of Plant Sciences (Fargo) is requesting $23,550 to obtain, evaluate, and disseminate findings regarding the application of mechanized and semi-mechanized tools for new and expanding regional grape growing operations. Contact Harlene Hatterman-Valenti.

Renuvix LLC (Fargo) is requesting $84,000 pay for pilot scale paper making, coating and testing services. Contact Ihor Tarnavchyk at 701-371-8670.

Ringside LLC (Beach) is requesting $205,000 to be used for app design and development. Features will include push notifications, creating profiles for the livestock, creating user profiles, live show results and in app advertisements. Contact Levin Hall at 701-720-6652.

Round Table Tops (Hankinson) is requesting $21,000 to develop a design plan for at three-acre greenhouse. The funds will also be used to to re-establish marketing plans, including materials, events and a full website redevelopment. Contact Ben Vaughn at 651-272-6571.

Summers Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Devils Lake) is requesting $138,510 to develop innovation in farm equipment which enables variable rate tillage while helping agricultural producers be more efficient. Contact Bruce Johnson at 701-662-5391. 

Total Ag Industries (Hillsboro) is requesting $26,250 to develop a prototype of a new harvesting equipment for high-CBD hemp. Grant funds will be used for the engineering, research and development and manufacturing of the prototype for the leaf and bud stripper. Contact Pat Muller at 701-636-4524.
