Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota Department of Commerce today announced that North Dakota has received $418,332 in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). The 2019 grants focus on investments in economic opportunity, education, veterans and military families, disaster services and continue a new initiative for governors and mayors.

Below is a listing of 2019 AmeriCorps grants in North Dakota:

  • South East Education Cooperative: North Dakota Reading Corps receiving $295,750 to support 66 AmeriCorps Members in Service to help with literacy.
  • Souris Basin Planning Council: Souris Basin AmeriCorps receiving $60,768 to support 8 AmeriCorps Members in service to help fight poverty.
  • Jamestown Parks and Recreation Dept.: JPRD Healthy Connections receiving $29,368 to support 10 AmeriCorps Members in service to help with healthy futures.
  • Cooperstown Community Activities: Cooperstown AmeriCorps receiving $32,446 to support 8 AmeriCorps Members in service to help with education. 

“Congratulations to these outstanding organizations and thanks to all those who serve their communities through AmeriCorps,” North Dakota AmeriCorps Program administrator Ryan Volk said. “In North Dakota, more than 2,100 AmeriCorps members have served 2 million hours and earned more than $5,300,000 in education scholarships.”

Since 1994, 1,000,000 AmeriCorps members have given more than 1.4 billion hours of service to their country, earning more than $3.6 billion in education scholarships. Later this year, the one millionth AmeriCorps member will take the AmeriCorps pledge, committing to "get things done" for America. 

“With funding support from AmeriCorps, North Dakota Reading Corps is able to work with partner school districts across the state to help close the literacy gap for over 800 PreK through 3rd grade students,” South East Education Cooperative Director of Student Services Jolene Garty said.
