The North Dakota Department of Commerce has enhanced several controls as recommended in a recent audit report to ensure that contracting and procurement guidelines are consistently followed.

“Commerce is committed to transparency and a sound financial control environment. In addition, we are committed to making a positive impact for North Dakota and being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars,” Kommer said.

“Commerce did not agree with all of the opinions included in the report, however, recognizes there is always room for improvement and has identified appropriate control enhancements,” Commerce Commissioner Michelle Kommer said. “While we are aware that the State Auditor has referred the audit to the Attorney General for further inquiry, we believe Commerce has adequately addressed the audit concerns by committing to these improvements.”

The control enhancements are outlined in a Commerce memo that has been forwarded to the State Auditor and will be presented Wednesday to the Legislative Audit and Fiscal Review Committee, which has specific statutory authority to review audit reports and forward them to the Attorney General for review if deemed necessary.
