The North Dakota Department of Commerce today announced that four communities have been selected for the 2022 Artists on Main Street Program.

The communities and representing organizational partners selected to participate in this year’s program are Williston via Williston Downtowners Association, Minot via Visit Minot, Hazen via Hazen Chamber of Commerce/CVB, and Divide County via Meadowlark Arts Council.

“We are excited to see the second year of this program carried out,” Commerce Commissioner Josh Teigen said. “Last year we saw tremendous success with Bowman and the variety of incredible projects that were created by local artists.”

The purpose of the Artists on Main Street program is to develop an example for rural economic and community development as it relates to arts and culture, downtown revitalization, and historic preservation. The program is offered through a partnership between Commerce, Springboard for the Arts, and Rethos: Places Reimagined.

Applicants selected for the program are provided technical assistance and funding to develop and install art in their communities. The unique opportunity consists of creative community development training, one-on-one technical assistance for artists and community leaders from placemaking experts, and financial support for up to five small projects that address local challenges affecting the vibrancy of their community.
