Gov. Doug Burgum today announced the city of Mandan is being recognized with the 2019 Main Street ND Legendary Heritage Award for the Historic Apartments on 4th.
The 2019 Main Street Awards honor communities that show excellence in elevating the three pillars of the Main Street Initiative: healthy, vibrant communities; smart efficient infrastructure; and 21st century workforce.
“Mandan has gone above and beyond to differentiate the community and improve the quality of life for the benefit of current residents and to help attract new residents,” Burgum said. “With deepest gratitude, we recognize Mandan with this award for dedication and efforts to enhance its vibrant community.”
Commonly known has Mandan’s former junior high school, the Historic Apartments on 4th consists of three adjoining buildings on an entire block of Mandan’s downtown. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the apartments are affordable housing designed to attract and retain workforce.
The Legendary Heritage Award recognizes communities focused on preserving and protecting their historical assets.
The Main Street Awards are a collaborative effort of the Office of the Governor, the North Dakota Department of Commerce and North Dakota State University Extension. A selection committee made up of agencies and partners judged the entries to make final awards.
