Gov. Doug Burgum today highlighted the newly established Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the important work it does to protect the state’s air, land and water resources. The department held a public open house today after officially becoming an independent state agency on April 29.

Doug Burgum today requested a presidential major disaster declaration as a result of widespread spring flooding that damaged homes and public infrastructure, inundated hundreds of roads and thousands of acres of farmland, and displaced dozens of residents in western, south-central and eastern North Dakota.

Gov. Doug Burgum issued the following statement after today’s announcement by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue of up to $16 billion in programs to assist farmers impacted by trade disruption. In the announcement, Perdue reflected on the previous round of Market Facilitation Program payments and called this plan “even stronger and more effective for farmers.”

Gov. Doug Burgum today congratulated the 310 students from 28 schools who participated in the Girls Go CyberStart program. In its first year participating in the innovative online cybersecurity program, North Dakota had the highest number of participants per capita out of 26 states participating.
