The North Dakota Department of Commerce announced today that the City of Jamestown was awarded $1,645,000 of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The City of Jamestown will use the awarded funds to support the development of senior apartments.
“Quality and affordable housing is in high demand throughout North Dakota communities,” Commerce Community Services Director Maria Effertz Hanson said. “The senior apartments project in Jamestown will help alleviate the local shortage and will attribute to an overall better quality of life within the community.”
The CDBG program provides financial assistance to eligible units of local governments in the form of grants and loans for public facilities, public services, housing rehabilitation, and economic development projects. The program is federally administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Commerce’s Division of Community Services administers the CDBG program at the state level.
The HUD provides an annual CDBG grant on a formula basis to the State of North Dakota and the state’s entitlement communities: Bismarck, Fargo, and Grand Forks.
Primary beneficiaries of the state CDBG program are eligible, non-entitlement counties and incorporated cities that use the funding for projects such as public facilities, housing, and economic development.
Eligible applicants can apply for the Governor’s Set Aside CDBG funds anytime during the year. More information about Commerce Division of Community Services programs and CDBG application process can be found at belegendary.link/Community-Development.
