Local Government

Citizens in North Dakota value control when it comes to local government. It’s one sure way to ensure that our needs are being addressed by people who genuinely understand what should be done because they live and work right alongside us. We also believe that governing is our responsibility. The result? Local governance that’s hyper-responsive to our citizens at a lower cost than other areas.  

Local government here consists of 53 county governments, 1,314 township governments, and 357 city governments. There are also 759 special districts and 183 independent school districts.
