TEL AVIV, ISRAEL and GRAND FORKS, NORTH DAKOTA -- Drone safety company ParaZero Technologies Ltd (ASX: PRZ), together with the Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NPUASTS), have completed the testing and compliance process for ParaZero’s newest SafeAir system, in accordance with ASTM F3322-18.
ASTM F3322-18 Standard Specification for Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Parachutes was designed to enable civil aviation authorities (CAAs), like the FAA, to determine whether a parachute system is airworthy for flight over human beings. Among other requirements, the standard includes 45 successful aerial deployment tests across various failure scenarios, verified by a third-party. NPUASTS has continued to work with ParaZero to provide this latest third-party validation.
ParaZero’s newest ASTM-compliant SafeAir system is designed specifically for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) UAS platform in the 10KG weight class. The OEM is seeking to operate above people, in complex operations, and in urban environment settings.
The SafeAir system is a smart parachute system that monitors UAS flight in real time, identifies critical failures, and autonomously triggers a parachute in the event of an emergency. The system contains a flight termination system, a black box to enable post-deployment analysis, and warning buzzer to alert people below of a falling drone. In addition to being fully autonomous, the SafeAir system includes a separate remote control for manual parachute deployment capability.
The completion of this compliance process for an OEM-integrated SafeAir system will open the door for other organizations to achieve safe and legal flight over people—and other advanced UAS operations—using the SafeAir system. Last year, in fact, the FAA granted more than 50 operational waivers for flight over people to companies using ParaZero’s ASTM-compliant SafeAir systems.
The third-party validation provided by NPUASTS played a crucial role in the ParaZero testing process and is in line with the work the NPUASTS is doing to promote the safe integration of UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS). The ability to safely operate UAS platforms over people and in urban environments is critical for the growth of the industry.
“We’re excited to support ParaZero’s continued development of SafeAir systems, especially for larger aircraft. This system reliably mitigates the risk inherent with larger aircraft, enabling a greater variety of use cases over persons on the ground,” said Nicholas Flom, the Executive Director of the Northern Plains UAS Test Site. “This advancement increases the viability of a number of advanced operations in the UAS industry and provides more options for routine flights over people.”
“ParaZero is thrilled to be setting the stage for OEMs to begin expanding their legal envelope of UAS operations through the integration of effective safety and risk mitigation technologies” said Eden Attias, CEO of ParaZero. “We know of many OEMs that build heavy, advanced commercial UAS platforms, however, are unable to deploy them to their full potential due to safety concerns or regulatory limitations. ParaZero has deep expertise in this area, and we are proud to be on the leading edge of advancing the industry to the next level.”

About the Northern Plains UAS Test Site
The Northern Plains UAS Test Site is one of seven Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) UAS test sites in the nation. The mission of the NPUASTS is to collaborate with FAA and industry partners to develop systems, rules, and procedures to safely integrate unmanned aircraft into the National Airspace System without negatively impacting existing general or commercial aviation.
